If you work long days and feel guilty about leaving your dog in an empty house or apartment, our Doggie Playcare Program could be just what you need. Playcare provides a safe, monitored indoor/outdoor environment that allows your dog the opportunity to interact with other dogs of similar age, sociability, and activity level. While you are working throughout the day, your dog is playing and getting much needed exercise and personal attention. It's a treat for them during the week when you cannot be there for them.
The benefits of Doggie Playcare are many, including that it:
- Promotes strong socialization skills through interactions with other dogs - dogs are pack animals and enjoy friendships just like we do!
- Provides a positive outlet for the release of built up energy - we'll send you dog home relaxed and happy at the end of your long work day! This is especially nice for owners of young puppies that have tireless energy and require constant supervision!
- Provides your dog with lots of personal attention throughout the day from our staff of true dog lovers - we live for puppy kisses
- Keeps the interior of your house intact, without your dog's special decorating touches - no more surprises when you come home!
- Provides you with peace of mind that your dog is happy and well cared for when you are not at home - one less thing for you to worry about!

At Dogwood Acres, we let our canine friends determine our daily activities.
In our outside area, it is typical to see all the "ball" dogs with balls in their mouths, running back and forth playing fetch. Others enjoy a game of chase or splashing around in the kiddie pool. And then there are always the sunbathers.
Inside our specially designed "gymnasium" (complete with specially designed slip resistant floors and lots of natural light!), the dogs enjoy Bubble Play, Laser Light Play, or simply Free Play with various toys about.
After several hours of playing, everyone goes down for naps between 11 and 1. This is very important as playing all morning has worn them out! Naptime is also when your dog will receive any requested lunch or medications.
After naptime, it's back to playtime until 4 when it's time to chill out and cool down while waiting for "mom" or "dad" to pick up.
Please note that the dogs have free access to water and "rest rooms" all day.

All dogs attending Playcare must:
- Be at least 4 months old
- Be in general good health and have written proof of up-to-date vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, and Bordatella
- Be spayed or neutered - Puppies under 6 months of age are exempt
- Not be protective of space, water, or toys
- Respond to "No" or "Off" commands
- Understand pack dynamics and play appropriately
- Know their name and come when called

Prior to enrolling in Playcare with us, Dogwood Acres requires that all dogs and their owners go through an informal interview and temperament screening. This gives you a chance to learn more about our program while we are able to make a preliminary determination concerning your dogs appropriateness for our program. Upon successful completion of the interview, you then schedule your dog with us for a trial day so that our staff can meet your dog and determine compatibility. Our guests' welfare and happiness is our top priority, so we want to make sure our group dynamic is a good fit for your pet. There is a non-refundable $28 fee for the trial day.
