Dogwood Acres Pet Retreat is partnering with The Life Center of Hospice of the Chesapeake, to offer at no cost, Pet Loss Workshops to help bereaved pet owners cope with their grief. The workshops will be held on the following dates at Dogwood Acres Pet Retreat, 439 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville:
Workshops include a welcome, a time to share individual stories, an introduction to the grief process, an art activity to honor the beloved pet, brainstorming and suggestions for healthy coping. There is no charge to attend, but reservations are required as space is limited.

March 12 ~ Eastport’s St. Patrick’s Day Green Beer RacesJoin us for the 2011 Annual Eastport St. Patrick’s Day Green Beer Race. Dogwood Acres will be judging the "Best Dressed Pet" contest at this year’s event, so deck your pet out in their best St. Paddy’s day wares. In addition, Dogwood Acres will be judging and awarding prizes for the "Cutest Leprechaun." Enter you and your family in a series of team relay races for adults and children. Enjoy live music throughout the day. Refreshments will be available for purchase including Green Beer, Corned Beef & Cabbage, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Steamed Spiced Shrimp, Fresh-Shucked Oysters on the Half Shell and more. http://www.eastportdc.com/green-beer-races • Saturday, March 12 from 11-9 pm |

April 9 ~ Pet First Aid Training & CertificationApril is National Pet First Aid Awareness Month, so Dogwood Acres is teaming up with Rescue One to offer a Pet First Aid Training and Certification course. This 3 hour course is designed to instruct in the necessary steps to save a pet’s life during an emergency or to minimize a pet’s trauma after an injury. Techniques for CPR, rescue breathing, choking relief, bandaging and proper restraint for dogs and cats are covered. Also addressed are common illnesses and other problems pets may experience. (Most techniques may be adapted to other types of pets as well.) Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certification card valid for two years. May 1 ~ SPCA Walk for the Animals 2011Join us on Sunday, May 1 for the 2011 Walk for the Animals at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. The Walk is from 8 am to Noon, rain or shine. June 8 ~ Kitties & Cocktails to support Adopt-A-Cat Month and the SPCAJoin Dogwood Acres, 4:30 - 6:30pm and help promote the adoption of these fun, affectionate animals! June is Adopt-A-Cat month, so we are partnering with the Anne Arundel SPCA and hosting a cat adoption event. Approximately 4 million cats end up in shelters every year, including thousands born every spring and summer during "kitten season."
