Pet Retreat is proud to support our community and we encourage you and
your pet(s) to join us as at these upcoming events: Canines & Cocktails for a Cause Last Friday in April, May, June,
July, August and September from
5:00 to 8:00 PM 2009 brings our 3rd season hosting this
event and it's getting better every year! Once again Paws
pet boutique is partnering with Loews Annapolis Hotel to host this monthly,
dog-friendly Friday night series that
takes place on the outside patio of the Weather Rail at Loews Annapolis
Hotel (126 West Street. ) rain or shine. A portion of the drink & food
sales from each of the Friday events will be donated to the Cause.
Plus, take a chance on winning a raffle prize, knowing all proceeds
are donated too! Special thanks to Dogwood Acres in Davidsonville
for donating a raffle prize to each of our 6 Friday raffles. Parking
is easy with special, self-parking at Loews Hotel during the events
for only $2. Each Canines & Cocktails for a Cause has a theme, so
here's what to look forward to:
Thank you for such a strong turnout
at our first Canines & Cocktails event this year. With 100 or
so dogs and their owners joining us to support Golden Retreiver Rescue,
Education & Training (GRREAT)
we are excited to report that $1,000 was raised for the Cause
from the Raffle and Drink/Food Sales. Canines in pirate garb competed
under different sea-faring Pirate categories for prizes provided by Paws
pet boutique. GRREAT was on the spot with information and dogs for adoption.
Lorraine with Pet-aw-graphy.com was available for pirate pooch photos
and Dogwood Acres Pet Retreat donated a sweet 3-day overnight package
to the Raffle. Don't miss the next one.
Welcome spring with local artists,
Rosemary Williams and Patsy Helmetag. Join us in making Annapolis beautiful
with flowers...Paw Posies that is. With their help your dog will 'paint
their pawprints' with non-toxic, water-based paint and then floral embellishments
will be added to a create one-of-a-kind painting. More than likely only
you will know that your dog was the painter...with a little help. Of
the $28 Paw Posy painting fee, $4 will be donated
to our local SPCA
of Anne Arundel County. Mingle
with dogs looking for forever homes. Luke, Loews Hotel's dog mascot
who was adopted from the SPCA, will be ready to get his paws in some
paint! Remember a portion of the drink and food sales are also donated
to the SPCA, so bring some friends and let's make some flowers! Oh and
don't forget the cats...we just adopted a sweetheart of a cat (Ali) in
late April from the SPCA. We can attest that there are many wonderful
felines and canines to adopt today from the SPCA. Funds raised tonight
will benefit ALL the animals
waiting for loving homes at the SPCA.
With Independence Day around the corner,
Paws pet boutique is getting ready to march once again in the
Annapolis July 4th parade as the Crabtowne
Canines (look below for details).
Now if that's not reason enough for you to pull out your red, white and
blue spirit early for Canines & Cocktails, we don't know what is! Maybe
you don't want to come as the Statue of Liberty, but we do want you
to come to support Oldies
but Goodies Cocker Spaniel Rescue.
Yes, they help re-home older Cocker Spaniels, but they also adopt out younger
dogs and Cocker Spaniel mixes. To add some sparkle to the evening, Paws
pet boutique will be awarding prizes to the most Patiotic Pooches. So
get creative and colorful and come out for a good ole' time. We promise
not to make you sing the Star Spangled Banner
if you and/or your dog arrive without red, white or blue on... July

in the Annapolis Parade! Details below.
July can be a toasty month, so we thought
we'd cool it down with dog ice cream from Paws pet boutique. Yes, our
ice cream is all natural, made locally and can always be found in the
freezer at Paws pet boutique! We'll be awarding the quickest ice cream
tongues in town, so if your dog has a quick draw tongue you'll want
to be here. We're so excited that Davidsonville
Wildlife Sanctuary is our
featured Cause for the evening. When I was walking to work last year,
I found a baby squirrel on the sidewalk who had fallen out of his nest,
which I brought to this amazing Sanctuary right here in our area. An
extremely knowledeable volunteer took in the squirrel and assured me
he could be treated, taken care of and eventually released. To learn
more about the Wildlife Sanctuary, please come and visit with representatives
and pick up some literature. They do wonderful things for the animals!
We've seen some amazing dog tricks
here at Paws pet boutique and thought this would be a perfect opportunity
for all these talented dogs to show off their stuff. A trainer from
Dogwood Acres will give us all a primer on how to teach a trick, before
helping to judge what is sure to be an entertaining competition. Buy
a raffle ticket (or 5...or 10) for a chance to win a training session
with Dogwood Acres. All this fun, plus we'll be benefiting a new and
wonderful rescue group, K9lifesavers. This non-profit is made up of a network of
foster homes, who take in dogs from high-kill animal shelters.
K9lifesavers is truly their last chance. We've had the pleasure
of meeting some the these fabulous dogs in foster care and are so grateful
for the work of K9lifesavers. Mingle with some of the lucky ones who
made it into this group and are looking for loving homes. Perhaps consider
fostering a dog yourself. Speaking of lifesavers, we love
to handout lifesaver candies on Paws pet boutique's Cruise for Compassion
to remind folks they ARE lifesavers by supporting Animal Legal Defense
Fund. All proceeds from our annual Cruise benefit Animal Legal Defense
Fund, who give many deserving animals a voice in the world. Last year
we were pleased to donate over $10,000 to ALDF. We hope you can join us for this special,
dog-friendly evening on the water this year. Cruise details can be found

Fall is officially here, so it's time
to prepare your pooch for the colder seasons in style. Dogs that have
been given second chances on life will be strutting their stuff on the
cat-walk in the newest functional fashions from Paws pet boutique. Whether
big or small, Paws pet boutique has something to cover them all. Once
again, this Canines & Cocktails for a Cause evening features a phenomenal
raffle and a portion of the drink sales will be donated to Loews Hotel's
charity of choice, Modest
Needs. This non-profit
helps people locally that have found themselves in unexpected financial
hardships. Whether it is a pair of glasses or a new car tire that is
needed, Modest Needs steps in to help. Hope to see you here. SPCA Walk for
