We love Dogwood Acres and have sent our dog here for both overnight stays and for daycare. The cameras are great and our dog comes home tired (which... is great!).The reason for my 3/5 star review is that reaching the reservation line via phone is nearly impossible. There have been 3 separate instances where we have tried to book overnight stays for our dog and we have been unable to reach a human for DAYS to book his stay. That’s 3 separate instances occurring prior to 3 separate stays. We call the phone number, press 1 to be transferred to the reservation line, and out of maybeee 25 times that we have called (total), the phone has only been picked up ONE time. When we try to call the front desk, we have been repeatedly forwarded back to the reservation line without the chance to explain our issues, only to have the reservation line go to voicemail once again. We leave voicemails but it has taken up to 4 days to hear back from the staff at dogwood.I write this feedback not only to express my frustration with the booking process, but hopefully to inspire some sort of change to this method of booking, or at the very least make others aware that this is happening. We really enjoy sending our dog here, but the fact that this keeps happening is definitely frustrating!read more

This was our first visit for our dogs to Dogwood Acres Kent Island location after high recommendations from friends. We went for a visit prior to the... stay, and everything seemed great, and the people were very friendly. They stated that it was their policy to give all dogs over a certain number of days stay a bath prior to pickup, and that we would get a report card for the stay so we knew how they did. The cameras in the play areas, and the ability to text the staff at any time for updates kept us feeling connected to our pups while we were gone.When we dropped them off on Saturday 6/19 everything went great. We discussed their individual needs and they took them back to their “luxury suite”. One of our dogs is a younger puppy, who was placed in the “yellow” group because she hadn’t been there before, and we were told she could be moved up to the “green” group if she did well. The other is older, and a bit grumpy, and not the play with other dogs type, so we ask them not to send him out for group play, just to provide individual attention. On Sunday we saw our puppy out in the yard getting to know the other dogs. She seemed to be doing well from what we could see. Unfortunately, that was the last time we saw her outside playing until we picked her up on Thursday. While it’s possible that we just missed her on the cameras, my wife was very diligent (obsessive) about watching for her, so we question whether she was getting the play times we expected.When I stopped by that Thursday afternoon to pick them up, I settled up the bill and they brought the dogs out. The staff was very friendly, but did not have a report card for the dogs, and both dogs smelled like they hadn’t been bathed as expected. I requested the report card, but in the commotion of handling my 2 excited dogs, was unable to get that. I also didn’t mention the bath because it was hectic, and I didn’t want to make accusations when I wasn’t certain. Once I got home with the dogs I was sure they they indeed had not been bathed. They also jumped out of my truck and both of them immediately peed for a long enough time that I knew it had been quite a long time since their last chance to go out, which didn’t thrill me. Knowing my dogs, my guess is it had been probably about 7 hours, which seems excessive for the middle of the day. My wife contacted them about the bath, and the report card via text and was told they didn’t not get bathed, but didn’t get any more help on the report card. They also were unable to provide us any information on what color group our puppy was in, which was frustrating, as that is another indicator of how well she handed the stay. We aren’t clear on whether the bath would have been an additional charge, or whether it was part of the packaged that we paid for, but didn’t get. Ultimately, the dogs were happy and came back fine, but it wasn’t the WOW experience we had hoped for. We will give them another shot, but our high hopes left us disappointed.read more

Top flight kennel. Clean and comfortable suites for your pets. Full service daycare and grooming. Beautiful surroundings and hotel like lobby.

Have used twice so far for my dog. He made a fast friend with another dog his first day, and they've played together quite a bit. Their dog... supervisor called midday the first day to let me know how my dog was doing and it was really nice checking in on him via webcam.read more

My girl Penny and I cannot recommend Dogwood Acres enough! Penny is a more active dog than I've had previously, and as much as I exercise her, it's... never enough to calm her crazy self. Taking her to Dogwood acres for daycare has been an absolute life-saver - she comes home happy and tuckered out. I know she loves it there, because she starts doing circles in the back seat when I pull up and then just about flies out of the car. The facility is spotless, and the yard is big enough to allow the dogs to run and wrestle to their heart's content (but not so big the staff can't keep an eye on them - whenever I tune in to the webcam there's always someone nearby monitoring them.) The staff is awesome - they really seem to enjoy hanging around with the pups. They always greet Penny by name when we show up in the morning, and I've seen staff members giving her neck scritchies a couple times when I was watching over the webcam. I am SO glad they opened up such an awesome daycare here on the island!read more

Dogwood Acres has been awesome. They take such good care of our dog. The ability to pay to have them bathed before they come home from daycare is... wonderful. I would 100% recommend them to anyone!read more

We have boarded our dogs for years at the Davidsonville location. This was our first time using the brand new Kent Island facility. We had the same... excellent service and some of the staff knew our current dog from Davidsonville. When we picked up our dog after a week, he was in good spirits and had received great care. The new location is an easy on-off when heading to the beach on Hwy 50. We definitely will board here again.read more
